TOPIC: New TaylorMade model next year - the R13?

New TaylorMade model next year - the R13? 12 months ago #32562

Just a quick shout out based on a poll I saw somewhere else about a new model next year from TaylorMade and whether it will be called the R13? Think I'll hold off on a new driver until the new models come out though I would be keen to demo so different models before then...

Ya think that will probably be the case. Based on their history so far R7, R9, R11...etc and then an intermediate release like the R11s...kind of like the iPhone So think it is probably worth waiting.

Saw some comment somewhere similar to this...in keeping with their "schedule"

Early press releases say the R13 will hit it 56 yards longer than the R11, and 132% straighter.

HaHa good one Tim...I'm curious myself about the upcoming ads for the R13 because didn't that taylor made rep in one of the vault videos tell Elk they had maxed out the USGA limits with the R11 or R11S? Where do you go from there?

Jim, that is correct re the max out of face but nowadays they all say something like that about every product knowing full well that they are about to finish the next great product and will not say anything until we have spent our hard earned and then they can get some more cash out of us later. Let's face it us golfers are suckers for spending all the time looking for the next best thing, I know, you should see my locker room it looks like a major outlet of Golfsmith. My next driver will have an I Phone 12 fitted into the shaft, with a 3D tv halfway down the grip and the latest High Def mini video camera built into the face and then that should have me covered for the next three months

Funny...but agree that we spend many dollars every year chasing the latest and greatest. too bad it is so difficult to really demo the top drivers...not sure what I am going to go for - I mean they will all invariably be 4.5 or 5 stars out of 5 and all the reviews will be generic or so technically focused you'd need to have a masters in engineering

Is the number 13 not a very scary number whether you are superstitious or not?

I really hope the R&A and the USGA put a block on equipment, the Game has lost all its appeal. Plus Taylormade Drivers are not getting any better or longer since the R5 series came out which I bought and used for 5 years. I bought the RBZ tp Driver at the start of this season and it was £350 sterling straight down the gutter, luckily I took it back and the shop said try something else. I tried The R11s - The Nike VR pro - Callaway Fit - and the new Cobra driver. These were all the new and improved drivers for the season. Then I tried this John Letters Driver. If anyone can remember John Letters were a famous club maker from Scotland. There staff players from Old are Lee Trevino Sam Torrence Peter Thompson to name a few. Well This driver was from there New Master Model design. It had a very standard look a beautiful plain Black head. The spec was 9" loft with face pre set at 1" open. The shaft is the Alida RIP stiff. Well this thing just flies. My club head speed with a driver is 111 mph so I can send it out there. With all the so called top of the range Drivers the furthest I could carry it on the simulator was 265 - 270. This John letters driver was Carrying 285-290. My point is that people need to think carefully about equipment before buying rather than just saying Oh I like Taylormade and most pros use them so I will use them too.

Ha guess we know the answer to this one now...
Clearly they are as superstitious as all us golfers
Have to say I don't like the look of it but no doubt it will be a sensational driver...
going to try it out when it comes out...

I hate this whole adjustable thing.

You want a driver to be strong where it bonds to the head. ie 2 or so good glued inches of prepared shaft.

You want functional weight distribution.

How can you get that if the shaft is held in by a small fraction of that. (kinda makes getting a low torque shaft redundant)

All manufactuers have manufacturing tolerences anyway, so why not just find what you need and request it. lofts, lie angles and face angles will all vary. Then there is the shaft.

I think adjustable is a fitting tool/guide only.

FYI I went for a fitting at a golf shop, and they tried to push the R11s on me, and it was foul, did not work at all. Everything else they gave me was OK, but I put them up against my 420cc driver 7deg with reg flex stiff tip and they all failed in both distance and accuracy. Most of the drivers that I tried all had heads well under 200grams. Light shafts and light heads = kids toys from Kmart
