TOPIC: I need chipping HELP!!!

I need chipping HELP!!! 1 year, 1 month ago #31735

Hey Dirters, I need help. I'm at my wits end. I've started to catch chips fat. The chili-dipper. From the fringe or from 10 yards off the green, I've lost it. 8-iron - 60*, I can't get it close. I was a 1.6 handicap a month and a half ago and that number is quickly on the rise. I shot a 94 a couple of days ago where I only got up and down ONCE. (Super high winds >40mph so missing greens was just going to happen, I hit the ball decently). I'm not going to play a round again util I get this woked out, but I can't figure out what has changed! I can't seem to hit chips solidly to save my life! ANY help, anybody may have to offer to cure the fats would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

A VERY frustrated fellow Dirter...

Because you were a 1.6, first of all don't jack with your swing or technique as first steps because if you had these shots before you know something about technique. What you check first is ball position. Fat shots often happen because you are too close to the ball or sometimes (kind of ironically) because you have the ball too far back in your stance. Go to the range or short game area and experiment moving the ball forward and further away from you. There will be a point where you start to hit it thin. Now you've identified the extreme at the other end of the ball position spectrum. Now work the ball back and closer to you until you find the honey hole.

That's the best advice I can give to start off with this. For better players the first place to look is almost always ball position and setup. Don't monkey with your technique until you are certain it has become faulty. Work on the static things first.

Maves, you officially have my permission to sleep with my wife.

What a difference! It took less than 20 chips on the practice green for it all to come back. So quickly that I felt cured and went out and played. I got up and down from everywhere!. Seriously everywhere. The fringe, 30 yards out, the woods. Man did I ever play well today. I owe you one bud!!
