Martin Ayers Group Forum: A group for everyone to discuss my teaching methods. I have based what I teach on many lessons learned both through mentors of mine and by looking at some of the greats of the game. Particularly going back into previous eras, where I believe much of what was learned has been forgotten. There has been many advancements made in Golf, but I believe for every one of those there has been a corresponding piece of wisdom lost.

I'm always open to new ideas, so if you have one, feel free to share it in the group forum, you'll find all kinds of views are welcome.

Still striking in really well with this but I've a question about the right foot torque... forgetting even the swing and just using the drill where both hands are together

I fell everything below the upper torqued to the target side. Including both feet.
Resisting and the first move of those hands is inwards.

After that though when the up + twirl kicks in I feel the right foot start to torque the other way. I'm still resisting but the force is too strong to keep the foot torqued to the target direction. Even with both feet turned wide open to the target I get the same forces.

As I start to come back at the ball turning the body with the arms going the direction they went in the back swing that right foot torque comes back BIG time.

I mean is this a power leak? Should I be feeling that right foot screwed down to the target side all through the swing?

Played around again with this at the range tonight. What I found was if I have both feet screwed down in front of the ball along with the body intended that way I get a nice resistance going back. If I slack off and let the body just go i lose that resistance at the top and the torque in my feet ends up going the other way i.e. lose my intent to the target and it's gone.

Martin is it fair to say throughout the swing (and increased on the down swing) that intent must be screwed down in front of the ball target side? I find I lose it by trying to go for that bigger back swing to generate power.

Nathan, I find that if I just let the things happen (with regard to foot torque) my lower body resistance will work in the opposite direction as I make my move toward the ball. The opposing forces work in tandem...forward intention in the lower body while the mass takes my arms/shoulders back and then stabilization (even a slight torque away from the target) while the mass takes them the other way. The correct pivot with my right side expanding along the right axis will rotate around a stable left side and the momentum generated by releasing down the left axis eventually takes my lower body toward the target.

If I were to describe my feeling, the pressure in my feet is toward the left toe/right heel going back and and the left heel/right instep going forward.
