CIMG0994Hunter Mahan was born May 17, 1982 in Orange, Ca. He is currently a member of the PGA Tour, and has 5 PGA Tour wins to his credit.

During his amateur career, Mahan won the Junior Amateur and was runner up to Ricky Barnes at the US Amateur in 2002. He play has been steady ever since turning pro in 2003. He notched one win in 2007, and then two more in 2010. With his win at the Houston Open in 2012, he became the highest ranked American in the world, at number 4 in the official rankings.

May 16 - Today in Golf History

lee-trevinoLee Trevino won the Colonial Invitational on May 16, 1976. He beat Mike Morley by one shot to capture the first place prize. He would go on to win the event a second time in 1978. 

Trevino was named Rookie of the Year in 1967, and would go on to have success around the world. During his career, Trevino had over 80 professional wins, including 29 on the PGA Tour. He had 22 top 10's in the major's including 6 wins. Four of those six wins at the majors came over Jack Nicklaus.

May 15 - Today in Golf HIstory

Ken Venturi, famed golf announcer and winner of 14 PGA Tour events including the 1964 US Open was born on this day in 1931.

Venturi began his career in home town San Francisico playing public courses like Harding Park at an early age.  By the time he reached 20 he had already made a name for himself as a top amateur and had spent time under the great Byron Nelson as a pupil.

May 14 - Today in Golf HIstory

ernie-elsOn this day in 1995, Ernie Els won the "GTE Byron Nelson Golf Classic." Els shot 263 (-17) to capture the $234,000 first prize. The tournament win was only the second PGA Tour win of his career. 

May 13 - Today in Golf History

pga-golf-tour1On May 13, 2001, Robert Damron won the HP Byron Nelson Championship. He shot a (-17) 263 total to capture the $810,000 prize. 

Before turning pro, Damron attended UCF, earning All American Honors three of the years he played there. 

In 2004, he lost in a playoff at the Byron Nelson to Sergio Garcia. 

In 2008, Damron won on the Nationwide Tour at the Athens Regional Foundation Classic.

During his professional career, Damron has earned more than $6,000,000 and racked up sixty-three top 25 finishes (Nationwide Tour and PGA Tour).
