July 3 - Today in Golf HIstory

pga-golf-tour1Australian David Graham won the Cleveland Open on July 3, 1972. The tournament was played at the Tanglewood Country Club and Graham's 278 (-6) was good enough to capture the $30,000 first place prize. 

Graham won 38 times around the world, including 8 times on the PGA Tour. He had a total of 81 top 10 finishes on the PGA Tour, with almost $2 million in prize money. He also won two majors, the 1979 PGA Championship, and the 1981 US Open. 

Later Graham went on to a successful Champions Tour career, winning 5 times with 40 top 10's, and over $4 million in prize money.
