Horace Rawlins was born August 5, 1874. He is best known as being the first winner of the US Open, in 1895.
The first US Open was held at Newport Country Club in Newport, Rhode Island. At the time of the Open, Rawlins was working as the Assistant Pro at the Club.
Rawlins shocked the golfing world by taking down the more established Willie Dunn, who finished in 2nd Place. For his win, Rawlins won $150.
