On August 19, 1962, Homero Blancas became known as "Mr. 55." While attending the University of Houston, Blancas shot a 55 during a college tournament on a tiny course in Longview, Texas.
The course where Blancas shot 55 no longer exists. It was a nine hole course with two sets of tees that measured just over 5000 yards all in.
After graduating from the University of Houston, Blancas went on to have a successful career on the PGA Tour, with seventy-three top 10's and four victories. He also had top 5's at the US Open and The Masters.
While on the Champions Tour, Blancas had twenty-four top 10's and one victory.
